Super Easy Wall Art

Good afternoon! I want to show you how I make some easy wall art. So, I have a package of these bird silhouettes I bought at Michael's and I wanted to do some kind of decorating with them. I decided to make some super easy wall art.

What I did was I spray painted two of the birds black. I had them so they would be facing each other and make a nice symmetrical image.

While they were drying I picked the paper I wanted to mount them on and cut it to be 8x10.

I then cut a thicker, black sheet of paper to be 11x14.

I glued the decorative paper in the center of the larger, black paper. It makes it look like the paper is matted.

When the birds were dry, I hot glued them in the center of the paper as evenly spaced as possible.

All I had to do was frame it! I got some super cheap frames at Wal-Mart for just $3.50 a piece!

And there you have it! I liked it so much, I made some initial art as well!

I just finished this frame and I know it was going to turn out great! Do you ever feel that way? Like you just KNOW it's gonna be good? Well, here's the final product! *Drum roll, please*

Do you like it? I distressed and antiqued it then added ribbon and the paper flowers. I finished it off with a high gloss glaze. I think it looks great with this black and white photograph in it!

Hand Painted Letters

Here's my newest decoration! Painted letters spelling our last name. They are about 10 inches high and I painted them black for a simple, classic look. I also distressed the edges and sprayed on a gloss finish. They're sure to go with our ever changing decor. I want to attach hangers to the back so I can put them on the wall but for now I just stuck them above some windows. But, I kind of like them there! I guess when I do some more decorating, we'll see where they end up.

My Treasury is Hot!

I'm so excited! I know it's probably a silly thing to get excited over but the treasury I made is number one! The funny thing is, I made it on a whim! I saw the treasuries were opening and decided to make one. I didn't have anything planned out and just made it as I went! Hehehe! Glad everyone liked it so much!

Start of March

Yuck! I woke up to giant snowflakes this morning and they have been off and on all day. Not a great start to March but I guess that's what you get when you live in the midwest!

Not a huge deal I suppose, just wishing we were done with this!! :-)

Princess Chalk Board

While wandering around the craft store the other day, I decided to pick up some chalk board paint. I had been meaning to make something for my daughter, so I decided to get a wooden plaque and make her a Princess chalk board. After all, that's what she is, a princess!

I painted the board a light blue. I think it compliments the pink nicely. I then painted on the chalk board paint, glued on the wood "princess", and attached the ribbon for it to hang from. Voila! Easy, huh? It will be a very cute accesory for her room.

Like Mother Like Daughter

As I was working on a frame my daughter decided she wanted to watch. She is not quite 2 years old and she found everything on "Mommy's Table" very facinating. She played with little metal letters and pretended like she could read them, and she sniffed my fake flowers. Sometimes I have to wonder if she will grow to be like mommy....

A Gift for a Friend

I wanted to do something for a wonderful friend that I have had since middle school. So, I decided to do what I do best! I made her a frame. I found some beautiful flower embellishments at Michael's that were "her" so I decided to make the frame around them. I used beautiful Martha Stewart paper to cover the frame and great brown polka-dotted ribbon. I think it came together beautifully! But, I guess that's for my friend to decide!! :-)

I finally got my first treasury! I have to say I'm quite proud of myself for how it turned out. But, all of the credit has to go to all the great Etsy artists that make the wonderful products and took FANTASTIC photos. It is all about items that make a house a home. Enjoy!

Wooden Frames

I recently have begun experimenting with wood frames. I thought it was time to move onward and upward with my creating. Not that I don't like my borders but, if you never learn and evolve where will you end up? In the same spot and that's not where I want to be. So, here is the debut of the new frames. My poor, poor son. I knew it had to be coming... He has been so cranky lately... And today I felt it. His first tooth is breaking through. My daughter didn't seem to have problems with her teeth coming in so I'm not quite sure what to do for him. I guess it's time to put the teething rings in the fridge!

I just wanted to show off a few more gifts I have done for some of my friends. :-)

This one is for my best friend, Christina, and her husband. It is a very pretty "love" border. I made it with some beautiful cream rose patterned paper, brown polka dotted ribbon, and pearl beads to add a special touch.

The one below, I have done for a friend who lives in Des Moines, Iowa. She has two beautiful kids and she just loves her family, so I wanted to give her something that she could put pictures of them in.

This last one, is for another friend from Des Moines. I met her while we worked at Red Robin. She has a little girl named Layla who is about 3 years old.

Even though Christmas is still to come, it is time to start thinking about Valentines Day. Here are my newest Valentines Day projects.

Hanging Sweetheart Border

Each section is 6 1/2x 4 1/2 and has 3x3 photo openings. It hangs from a deep red ribbon. The brown paper has a wonderful cloth like texture and a the red embellishments look great against it.

A Christmas Gift

This is a Christmas gift I made for a good friend who is a mother of 3 little girls. I thought it would be appropriate to make a Princess themed border. The size of this one is 8x14 and has 3 photo openings for each one of her princesses. I hand stamped each one of the girls' names in metal to add a personal touch.

My Latest Custom Order

My latest custom order was a Christmas present for a mother. The customer wanted it to be Family themed with rich reds and browns. I wanted it to be classy, simple, and pretty. I found some wonderful paper at Michael's. A brown and tan paisley patterned paper is used for the background along with a copper textured paper. I used copper wire for the words, "as for me and my house we will serve the Lord." There is a beautiful deep red ribbon running horizontally and vertically. And, I love the copper leave accents.

My oh my how cute is he? This is my daughter's new friend, she just doesn't know it yet. You see, she hasn't met him yet. Custom Ornament

Just a quick post to show a new item. I had someone request 2 of my Jingle Bell ornaments but I only had one. So, I made another and here is how it turned out.

I had to make it slightly different than the original because I could not find the paper I made the first one with. I'll probably find it tomorrow now that I'm done with the order ;-)

Early Christmas Present

I have finished my Christmas shopping, for the most part. One thing I got, that I decided to use early, is my son's infant seat. I got him a Bumbo seat. It is made for babies to help them sit upright. It works! He is so cute sitting in it! Like a little man! He seems to like it so far!

This is probably one of my favorite Christmas things. A Charlie Brown Christmas. When I see it, I am reminded fo when I was a kid and Christmas was so magical. Back when you didn't have to worry about buying presents, slick roads, planning family events, or cooking the Christmas dinner. Even if it is just a short half and hour, I love having that feeling back.

Ok, so I know that I'm not the best writer. Ok, I'm not good at all! Having a blog is proving to be rather difficult for me. I just don't have a way with words. But, I am going to pick it back up and try again. I wanted to let you in on some new things I am working on. Right now, I am in the middle of a custom order. I have 7, 8x10 borders to do. They are pretty much all done. I just need to get more backing for them and frame them. I will have pictures up when I finish them completely.

Creative Borders Parties

I now have done my second show and I have had a lot of great suggestions from patrons. So, I have decided to introduce Border Parties. It is along the lines of a Tupperware or Mary Kay party. A hostess (or host) books a party, invites friends, and we all get together over drinks and snacks and have a great time!

There are great perks to booking a party with me. Just for booking, the host will receive $5.00 towards an order. Then, they will earn 10% of the total sales to go towards their order. So, if during a party $100.00 is sold, the host will earn $10.00 more. If another party is booked that day by a friend, the host earns another $5.00! It's great fun!!

A Creative Borders party is a great way to get all your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors together to find the perfect borders to preserve your most precious memories. There is no formal presentation, just a casual get together. Here, your guests can ask questions, browse and purchase on-hand merchandise, and place custom orders.

New Christmas Items

It is creaping up on us!! Day by day, you can see it more and more. You can feel it when you go outside. What is it? Only the best, and probably most stressful, holiday there is! My First Show

I finally had my very first craft show on Nov. 8th. It was a small one but I figured that I should start off small since I had no idea what to expect. It was held at the Frisbie Senior Center in Des Planes, Illinois. Even though there was a lot of down time, I have to say, I had fun! It is very encouraging to hear the nice things that people have to say about my work. I didn't sell a ton of things but I did make some sales and, it feels good. :-) I have another show to do this Saturday and I am very excited! Hopefully, as Christmas nears, sales will pick up and I can actually start to see some real profit!!

Help Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye

Did you know that in 2008 there will be an estimated 182,460 new cases of breast cancer in America alone? It is the second most common form of cancer after lung cancer and can even affect males. Some of the warning signs include a lump, hard knot, or thickening of breast tissue, swelling, warmth, redness, or darkening, a change in size or shape, and new pain in one spot. Moms, isn't this the best part of the day? Very rarely do I get this lucky and I am happy to report that I am very much enjoying mysefl! I've got cookies in the oven (not that I need any since I ate a bunch of dough!) the windows open and the cool air coming in. The house is completely silent. I can actually hear a cricket cherping. I know this won't last for very long and I should get some work done. I have a show to do at the begining of November, and seeing as how this is my first show, I want to be prepared. So much to do! But, that's for later..... Right now I'm going to soak in the silence :-) Happy Monday afternoon to you!
